Akkur Oriental Arabic Higher secondary School was founded by Marhoom M.S.M.SHARIF on 25-08-1947 immediately after the independance of India in the name of SANMARKA KALA NILAYAM as middle school. Marhoom M.S.M.Sharif who was a follower of Abul Kalam Azad and Mahatma Gandhi, formed a committee named Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Grama Committee to govern and to develop the institution. Later Moulana Abul Kalam Azad was registered under the Society Act XXI of 1860 in S.No. 2 of 1955 in the year 1955.

After deep thinking Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Grama Committee approached the government for the change of syllabus in which they succeeded in the year 1955 and ARABIC was taught as a first language under the ORIENTAL syllabus. Thus the SANMARKA KALA NILAYAM had a change and become ever first ORIENTAL ARABIC SCHOOL in which Arabic language was though along the ISLAMIC studies. The school was upgraded as a high school in the year 1964. This school has all section of societies cutting out Caste, And creed, our school promoters a secular outlook among the students.

AKKUR ORIENTAL ARABIC HIGH SCHOOL was only institution in Tamil Nadu where the Islamic subject were taught, and for this particular reason students from various part of Tamil Nadu and even from other states of India and from foreign country came to Akkur Oriental Arabic High School and were successful in obtaining their goal of Islamic studies along with regular subject. Many of the students who have studied at this great institution have attained very high position in society, some of them are in command of power and wealth along with Muslim character, Akkur Oriental Arabic High School is the role model which inspired so many people to start Oriental Arabic High School in towns like Ambur, Pudukkottai, Villupuram, Ulundurpet, Chennai Vandalur, Kumbakonam, Cumbam, Pallappatti and other places in Tamil Nadu.

The Institution which started with just a handful number has grown to a strength of 450 students at present which comprises of Boys and Girls. Under self financing scheme the institution was offered to upgrade as a higher secondary school by the Educational Department Due to the severe financial crisis the up gradation was delayed for long period and with great efforts on 22-08-2002 the school was upgraded as a HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL by G.O.N.M.No. 6106/WII/2002.

In our institution National Integrity and Communal Harmony is taught, much importance is given to Islamic studies and culture and also make them to practice the way of true Islamic life. Boys and Girls are taught Arabic, Tamil and English along with Quran, Hadees and Fiqh in separate class rooms. Moreover girl students of the local village are taught Quran to read and write Arabic in the morning hours.

Around 150 Boy students are given shelter in the hostel situated within the campus and they pray five time 'salah" in the mosque regularly. Since 1955 poor and orphans around 100 in number are provided shelter, food and cloths through the funds received from philanthropists and old students.

Since the building (Mosque, Class rooms and students Hostel) became old due to age and found to be unsafe the management has embarked on building of concrete floored structures from 1994, all the below mentioned projects have been undertaken with the help of the funds received from Philanthropists, and Old students.

HEARTY APPEAL
The Institution stsrted with a few students has grown to a strength of 450 students consisting boys and girls in the year 2005-2006. Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Grama Committee which governs the Institution to progress, the funds received are not sufficient to meet the requirements, the committee makes a request and pleads for more funds from all well wishers to contribute to their best ability for a good cause.
